The AI features

Updated 2026-09-19

HighLevel's AI features answer conversations, take and make calls, help build workflows and generate content, and they are paid for either per use or through an AI Employee add-on tier. They pay when enquiries arrive outside working hours or faster than a person can reply. At low enquiry volume, a person answering the phone or the chat costs less and reads as a person.

The modules

HighLevel bundles its AI under the name AI Employee, which covers Conversation AI, Voice AI, Content AI, Reviews AI and a workflow-building assistant, as at September 2026 (source: help.gohighlevel.com, checked September 2026). Conversation AI answers chat and message enquiries. Voice AI takes and can make calls. Content AI drafts social copy inside the social planner, up to roughly 900 words, adapting length to the platform. Reviews AI assists with review-related responses. A separate "AI Employee" label used by some third parties covers the same bundle; treat any feature name outside this list as a claim to verify against the current help article before relying on it.

What it costs to run

Two AI Employee tiers exist, priced per location (sub-account) as at September 2026: Growth at $50 a month includes 1,000 Conversation AI responses and 100 Voice AI minutes shared across inbound, outbound and widget use; Unlimited at $97 a month lifts both to unlimited use subject to fair-use limits (see add-ons). Usage beyond a tier's allotment, or use outside either tier, is billed pay-per-use at rates that vary by token and minute; check the current in-app pricing before committing to a volume. AI-generated messages sent as SMS still draw on the same per-segment SMS rate as any other text, $0.00747 per segment as at September 2026 (see usage fees), so an AI reply is not free simply because a human did not type it.

When each one pays

Use Conversation AI once enquiries are going unanswered for hours at a time, most often outside business hours or across a busy evening. Use Voice AI once missed calls are a measurable source of lost work and a text back alone is not enough to hold the caller's interest; see missed-call text-back for the lighter-weight version of the same problem. Use Workflow AI to build automation faster once you already know what the workflow should do; it speeds up construction, it does not decide the design.

When to skip it

Skip all of it until the manual version of the routine is defined and measured: what a reply should say, how fast it should go out, and what a booked call looks like. AI applied to an undefined process automates the confusion along with the reply. At low volume, a person answering a handful of enquiries a day costs less than either AI Employee tier and a caller can usually tell the difference between a person and an automated voice, which matters for some businesses more than others.

Setting expectations before turning it on

Decide the tone and the boundaries for what Conversation AI is allowed to say before it goes live, the same way you would brief a new hire. For Voice AI specifically, a phone number must be properly registered before automated outbound calling begins; an unregistered number risks carrier filtering regardless of what is calling from it (see phone and SMS).

Questions people ask

What AI does HighLevel have?

Conversation AI for chat and messages, Voice AI for calls, Content AI for social copy, Reviews AI for review responses, and a workflow-building assistant, bundled as AI Employee.

How much does the AI cost to use?

$50 a month per sub-account for the Growth tier with 1,000 responses and 100 voice minutes, or $97 a month for the Unlimited tier, both as at September 2026. Usage beyond a tier, or outside a tier entirely, is billed pay-per-use.

Can it answer my phone?

Voice AI can take and make calls on a registered number, separate from the standard phone system charges that apply regardless of AI use.

Will customers know it is AI?

HighLevel does not publish a stated policy on disclosure in the sources checked for this page; check the current help center and your own state's rules on automated calling and messaging before relying on an assumption either way.

Is the AI worth it for a small business?

Only once enquiry volume or after-hours contact makes a person's time the bottleneck. Below that point, a person answering directly is cheaper and, for many callers, preferred.
